Jan Wessels is a photo-imaging artist who works in classical photography, digital imaging, and alternative photo/darkroom processes. She received an MFA in Studio Art Photography in 1999 from Northern Illinois University, and has a BS in Photography and Design from the Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. She also has a certificate in Digital Imaging Web Design.

Her work is represented by the Illinois State Museum Illinois Artisan Program in Chicago and downstate Illinois and has been included in various national and regional exhibitions, as well as private and corporate collections.

She has been an Instructor of Photography at Truman College (one of the City Colleges of Chicago) for more than 20 years and has also taught photography at North Park University and other Chicago area colleges. Her current credit classes are listed at Truman Photography, and Continuing Education classes are at Truman College/JWessels.

She has also worked as a gallery director, curator, graphic designer, picture editor, photo stylist, and newspaper/editorial photographer—including free-lance and consulting projects.

Born in Watseka, Illinois she continues to reside in the Chicago area since attending the Institute of Design.
